Gilt Figure of an Ushabti or Shabti of carved wood and gesso. Originally carved in the 19thC he has been professionally regilded by renowend gilder Claire Anderson, the result presenting very well. Generally mummiform figurines found in many ancient Egyptian tombs were called Ushabtis and this later carving is believed to be of tamarisk wood. He was purchased in southern Portugal from the curator of archaeology and his condition has warranted the improvement undertaken. He is indeed a very handsome piece and we would be delighted to find him a new home. Mounted on a metamorphic block.
